Calprotectin exhibits high sensitivity in evaluating disease activity and therapeutic efficacy of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). At the annual meeting of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) held in Birmingham from March 14 to 17, 2005, calprotectin was recognized as a novel reference biomarker to assist the assessment of inflammatory activity and mucosal healing in IBD.
