Thyroglobulin (Thyroglobulin, TG) is a kind of glycoprotein in thyroid follicular columnar cells; with a molecular weight of 660KD, which plays an important role in thyroid hormone synthesis and storage. In vivo, thyroglobulin contains T3 and T4 in colloid form, and stored them in the follicular cavity. Under the action of the enzyme, T3 and T4 are free and enter the blood circulation within the cytoplasm. While a small amount of TG is also released into the blood. TG can be detected out from normal body with concentration 3-40ug / L. But when the thyroid gland is damaged due to pathology, a large number of TG was released into the bloodstream. Then as a self-antigen, TG will induce production of anti-TG antibody.
