Progesterone is the first biologically active compounds generated in the steroid biosynthesis processwhich is generated by the adrenal cortex, testis, ovary and placenta female generation. Its main metabolite is progesterone diol-3-glucuronide. LH effects on luteum to regulate the synthesis and secretion of progesterone. As LH peaked in mid-menstrual cycle, the corpus luteum begins to develop, and the level of progesterone also rises. In 5-8 days after ovulation, Prog is up to the highest level. If not pregnant, Prog is lower to the follicular phase 4 days before menstruation. If pregnant, progesterone levels develop along with the placenta, and throughout gestation.
