Product Overview
The S100 Antibody Reagent (Immunohistochemistry) is an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) reagent available as a rabbit polyclonal or mouse monoclonal antibody. It is intended for the qualitative detection of S100 protein in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections using immunohistochemistry (IHC), with visualisation under light microscopy.
The S100 protein family consists of at least 25 low molecular weight (9–13 kDa) calcium-binding EF-hand proteins. The majority of these proteins exist as homo- and heterodimers, in which the monomers are non-covalently bound. Members of the S100 family are expressed in a wide variety of cell types and are involved in regulating diverse intracellular processes such as contraction, motility, cell growth, cell cycle regulation, transcription factor regulation, and protein phosphorylation. Select S100 proteins are also secreted and/or released by cellular damage and have extracellular functions.
Intended Use
This antibody is designed as an adjunctive diagnostic tool in pathology, with applications including:
1. Melanoma Diagnosis
Serves as a melanocyte marker to aid in the differential diagnosis of melanocytic versus non-melanocytic tumours. S100 is positive in almost all benign and malignant melanomas and their metastases.
2. Neural Tumours
Aids in the classification of schwannomas, ependymomas, astrogliomas, glioblastomas, and peripheral nerve sheath tumours (PNST).
3. Soft Tissue Tumours
Supports the differential diagnosis of liposarcoma, chondrosarcoma, salivary gland carcinomas, sweat gland carcinomas, and various other carcinomas.
4. Other Applications
Aiding in distinguishing sclerosing adenosis from tubular carcinoma of the breast
